Iranian athletes collect two more gold medals at Baku 2017
Saeid Mollaei and Sajjad Ganjzadeh claimed two gold medals for Iran at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku on Sunday.
Mollaei secured a stunning victory in the men's 81kg contest, beating Turkey's Ilker Gulduren with an Ippon at the Heydar Aliyev Arena.
The Iranian adds the gold to his silver medals from the 2014 Asian Games and the 2016 Asian Championships.
Bronzes went to Kyrgyzstan's Vladimir Zoloev and Davlat Bobonov of Uzbekistan.
Iranian karate fighter Ganjzadeh also gold medal in the men's kumite +84kg, defeating Turkey’s Enes Erkan 5-3 in the final match.
Narjes Emamgholinejad in the 10-metre air rifle and karate fighter Nasrin Dousti have already claimed two gold medals for the Persian Gulf country.
Athletes from 54 Islamic countries around the world are representing their nations over 10 days of competition across 20 different sports which include 23 disciplines (Athletics and Para Athletics, Aquatics – Diving, Aquatics – Swimming, Aquatics – Water Polo, Basketball 3×3, Football, Gymnastics – Artistic, Gymnastics – Rhythmic, Wushu, Table Tennis, Handball, Judo and Blind Judo, Wrestling – Greco, Wrestling – Freestyle, Shooting, Tennis, Volleyball, Boxing, Zurkhaneh, Karate, Taekwondo and Weightlifting) in 16 world-class sporting venues in Baku.
The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games started on May 12 and will finish on May 22 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan under the motto “Solidarity is our strength.”
